SOFTCAM 2000/XP Released!

Softcam 2000/XP Beta Overview
Softcam 1.4 Beta for Windows 2000/XP (only) was released Jan. 1, 2002. No new features have been added to this release. It is for the most part a straight port of the classic Softcam 1.0.2 software to Windows 2000 and XP. Not included in this release are WaveMux and FloatIt. These products will be added to a revision of 1.4 in the future. The final release of Softcam 1.4 2000/XP is scheduled for April 17, 2002. Customers who purchased Softcam 1.0.2 will be able to upgrade to 1.4 at no charge (we are not responsible for lost registrations - we do not track registrations beyond one year). The installer will accept your existing registration information during installation.

Softcam 1.4.1
Softcam 1.4.1 includes a fix over 1.4.0 for applications on Windows 2000 that require streaming video (as opposed to frame by frame capture). Such applications are ICUII 5, and the Softcam AVI file capture feature. Note: we are still seeing this problem on Windows XP and are looking into a fix for this OS as well.

Softcam 1.4.2
Softcam 1.4.1 did not show up in NetMeeting's list of available video capture devices. This was a problem with the Softcam Installer. Softcam 1.4.2 fixes this problem. You should now be able to select Softcam from within the NetMeeting video options dialog.

Softcam 1.4.3 - Fix for "AVI File Corrupt or not supported by VFW" Error
Softcam versions prior to 1.4.3 contained a problem reading most AVI files. Version 1.4.3 fixes most problems. If you *do* see a problem playing AVIs while using Softcam 1.4.3 or later, please make sure that the appropriate video codec to decompress the video in the AVI is installed on your system.

Softcam 1.4.4 - Exteneded Beta to 3/1/02
Softcam 1.4 Beta has been extened to March 1. 2002.

Installation Problems
Some users have reported a problem with the Softcam 1.4 installation. The installer fails to decompress the files and aborts. As it turns out, some antivirus programs interfere with the TurboSFX installer and / or the actual download of the Softcam14x.exe file itself. If you are having this problem, you can get around it by disabling your antivirus program before you download the file, download softcam14x.exe again, and then run the installer. Also check that the antivirus program is terminated from Task Manager / Processes. You may need to terminate the antivirus program from there as well. Additional note: some users have found that if they choose to "Run" softcam14x.exe from their browser instead of saving the file and then running it, that this also seems to work.

Softcam 1.4.6 - Exteneded Beta to 4/15/02
Softcam 1.4 Beta has been extened to April 15, 2002.

Softcam 1.4.7
The "SendTo Softcam" link has been fixed. Also, there was a bug which caused deleted Titles to reappear after running Softcam again. This has been fixed as well.

Softcam 1.4.8
Some video streaming problems fixed that should help saving files and operation with ICUII and other programs that use streaming as opposed to frame capture.

Softcam 1.4.9
SoftCam Version 1.4.9 adds additional support for capture cards that were not supported in earlier releases of Softcam 1.4.x. Also, a streaming video problem was fixed that was visible when attempting to capture video to files or streaming to some applications.

Softcam 1.4.11
SoftCam Version 1.4.11 solves several compatibility problems with Video Cards, AVI files, and vaious bitmap and GIF images.

Softcam 1.4.12
SoftCam Version 1.4.12 solves several compatibility problems with applications that utilize Windows Media to get to Softcam. Includes support for Windows Media Encoder.

Softcam 1.4.13
SoftCam Version 1.4.13 now includes the "FloatIt" tool.

Softcam 1.4.14
SoftCam Version 1.4.14 now includes support for JPEG files.

1394 / Firewire Capture Problems
Some users report that they are unable to capture video using a 1394 / Firewire capture device. We are currently looking into this problem and will report our results here very soon.
